I have no idea if this is real. If it is, this Marylander is pretty clever. He sent a letter to Paul S. Sarbanes (one of Maryland’s senators) asking to change his citizenship status to illegal:

June 7, 2006

The Honorable Paul S. Sarbanes 309 Hart Senate Office Building Washington DC 20510

Dear Senator Sarbanes:

As a native Marylander and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Immigration and Naturalization Service in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.

My reasons for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stem from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill’s pro visions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, what I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years.

I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out. Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I’m excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illeg al (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be most appreciative. Thank you for your assistance.

Your Loyal Constituent, Pete McGlaughlin

Recently, I’ve been addicted playing JezzBall more than normal trying to get high scores. Why? Because I have nothing better to do.

JezzBall is a computer game in which red-and-white ‘atoms’ bounce about a rectangular field of play. The player advances to later levels (with correspondingly higher numbers of atoms and lives) by containing the atoms in progressively smaller spaces, until at least 75% of the area is blocked off. You gain a bonus for getting more than 75%, which is calculated from the percentage over 75 that you manage to block off.

JezzBall was programmed by Dima Pavlovsky and introduced in 1992 as part of the Microsoft Entertainment Pack, and also in the later Best of Windows Entertainment Pack.

Today, I was able to clear a little more than 75% on the first level. My first try was pure luck as you can tell because I lost one life:

jezzball 99% cleared

Here’s the second try:

jezzball 99% cleared

Download Best of Windows Entertainment Pack (includes JezzBall) and try to set your own high score.

cardboarded officeMany of you might remember the upside down dorm room prank I posted a while back.

Some guys decided to prank their friend Mike while he was away for a few days. This prank may not be as elaborate as the upside down room one, but it’s pretty funny.

The prank? Turn everything in his cubicle into cardboard.

chip hopMC Plus+, an extraordinary geek rapper, has released “Chip Hop,” a new CD of nerdcore rapping. It’s all freely downloadable, too.

MC Plus+ currently has 2 albums: Chip Hop and Algorhythms. Some of his songs include MySpace Pimpin’, Still Hustlin’, Ascii Antics, and Syntax and Semantics from Chip Hop, and Computer Science for Life, Have to Code, and Dear Engineer from Algorhythms.

I just downloaded one song, and it’s pretty awesome, but I enjoy programming, so my opinion might be a little biased.

It works well and can create quite a few laughs.
