In 2006, Clover Studios and Capcom released a game for the PS2 called Okami. The game was released late into the PS2’s life cycle, which was facing strong competition from the Xbox 360 and upcoming PS3 and Wii consoles. While it didn’t sell very well, it earned massive critical acclaim. Now, Capcom along with Ready at Dawn Studios will be porting this PS2 gem to the Wii to give it another shot at gaming greatness, when they re-release Okami for the Nintendo Wii.
The game is set in Nippon classic history, and begins with a flashback to events 100 years prior to the game’s present, and describes how Shiranui, a pure white wolf, and Nagi, a swordsman, together fought the eight-headed demon Orochi to save Kamiki village and the maiden Nami, Nagi’s beloved. Shiranui and Nagi are unable to defeat Orochi but manage to seal the demon away. In the game’s present, Susano, a descendant of Nagi, accidentally breaks Orochi’s seal, and the demon escapes and curses the lands, sapping the life from every living things. Now, Shiranui must be called back to once again restore life to the world.
Okami will be painting its way into stores in March 2008. Click below for the E3 Trailer of the PS2 version..
