What’s cooler than holding a fireball in your hands?

If you’re wondering why it doesn’t get him burned, here are a few reasons:

1) Lighter fluid doesn’t burn at a very high temperature. Remember it has a flash point lower than the temp of a flint spark, otherwise it’s wouldn’t work in lighters. I’ve seen it done with rubbing alcohol too for an even lower temp fireball, but that will burn out quicker.

2) The cloth ball is packed very tightly. You wouldn’t want to try this with loose cloth. The less air inside the better. If the cotton starts to burn instead of the fluid the temp will rise and you’ll get burned. Also use 100% cotton, I can already foresee some Nimrod trying this with polyester and getting 3rd degree burns.

3) He keeps the ball moving. don’t let it come to rest in one spot too long.

4) He’s holding it in his hands. Hands have very good circulation, the blood carries off the heat like a radiator coil. There are other areas of your body you would not want to try this with because it won’t cool down fast enough.

5) People have a different threshold for pain. Many of us will do this with no problem, others will scream and cry. It doesn’t bother me at all, but I’m sure others will freak out and run for the nearest faucet to extinguish their hands.

If you can squeeze drips of lighter fluid out of the ball, odds are you’ve used too much fluid or the ball is too loose.

I got all of that from digg.com.

when i was in 6th grade, i took one of those bunson burners, removed the top, and dipped my fingers in it. i then passed my hand over the flame of another. had about a 2ft flame coming off my hand to the dismay of most of my classmates, the rest were to much in shock to say anything. one other kid tried it and wound up with 2nd degree burns. he panicked and started waving his arm around. this resulted in spreading the fuel down his arm which made it worse. the only thing panic solves is the other guys problems.

i have actually made these and they are loads of fun. albeit i almost burnt my coach down (note to self don’t play catch inside with flaming balls). as long as you keep them moving in your hands they don’t burn but they will seem hotter the longer you go meaning when you put them out by wrapping your hand around them it might hurt a little.

It also helps if you put vaseline on your hands, it won’t hurt as much. Have fun.
