This scene from episode 4 of Season 1 (”Ellie Comes To Town”) has Barney Fife showing Andy that he has memorized Rule #1 from the Sheriff’s Manual.
Three years later, in a Season 4 episode titled “Opie’s Ill-Gotten Gain,” this scene was redone almost exactly (”Give me the first word,” “Are you sure?”, “Shhhh!”, Barney’s messed up hair, “Do you want to go over that again?” and so on). In that later episode Barney shows Andy how he has “memorized” the Preamble to the Constitution. Screamingly funny, with Andy Griffith breaking up a little when he sees the messed up hair of Don Knotts.
