After 1 day, we now know (or are fairly sure) what Materazzi said that could have sparked a headbutt.
A professional lip reader said that Materazzi said “We all know you are the son of a terrorist whore.” Mothers + the association of terrorism to French Algerian people = headbutt.
Here’s another thing that I found interesting from this article:
“A source close to the Italian squad claimed that after twisting Zidane’s nipple, Materazzi asked him: ‘What, don’t you like it?’ The French captain replied: ‘A bit too hard to turn me on.’
But Materazzi shouted: ‘Well, I did it that way because I know that’s how your mother likes it.’”
