The new soccer ball at the World Cup this year, the Adidas Teamgeist football, is a lot more frustrating for goalies. German midfielder Torsten Frings scored an amazing goal from 40 yards out. The ball started off straight and then tailed sharply to the right in the last 10 yards or so.
The reason for this, scientists say, is because the new ball has less panels: 14 instead of the normal 26 or 32 that form the hexagonal pattern. Fewer patterns = fewer seams = baseball-like behavior instead of soccerball-like.

I watched that game. The ball does some amazing stuff the way it flies. Czech Republic also scored one of their goals “because” of the way the ball flew. It has no rotation yet still bends. Most new balls to bend but none as much as these.

The new world cup ball curls like any other football has for the past 10 years. Sometimes the goalkepers are unlucky but most have learnt how the new ball curls. Also some players have masteed the art of curling the ball into the top corner bof the goal like David Beckham, Thierry Henry etc
