Homeless man ends up in school; students await punishment

In a small back room, one day after a so called senior prank, the North Alabama Coalition for the Homeless gathers for a regularly scheduled meeting. It begins with irregular irritation.

“All of you have heard about the situation at Huntsville High yesterday where three children, I’m going to say abused a homeless person,” president Larry Sisterman

A homeless person ended up in a Huntsville High School hallway in the middle of the day on Thursday.

Why? How? Answers we found elsewhere, all the way across town at Brahan Spring Park. Those woods, as well as pavilions, are known as homeless havens.

Apparently, in the middle of the morning on Thursday, a group of high school students came by the park and offered a homeless man a ride.

Once in the car, they made another offer. Money in return for taking off his pants in the hall during a class change.

An incident report was filed with the Huntsville Police Department. The offense listed as disorderly conduct. However, police have not filed any official charges against either the homeless man or the four students listed on the report.

Instead, the Huntsville City School System is investigating. Administrators say they won’t hand down formal punishment until early next week, but system spokesman Keith Ward adds quote “the students directly involved will face significant punishment.

Deservedly so, say appalled homeless advocates.

“But to do that to a human is just beyond my comprehension,” Sisterman

School administrators will take the weekend to discuss all possible options, adding they’ve never dealt with a situation quite like this before.
