My new favorite site to download music is http://albumbase.com/. It’s a fairly new site, but it’s awesome if you want to download music. It’s been down for days, but it just came back up today.

Why is it good? All the music are hosted on a different server, so you don’t have to worry about it shutting down; they’re hosted on upload sites such as rapidshare.de or megaupload.com. The admins also wrote a little script that runs once in a while to get rid of dead albums, and hundreds of albums are added everyday.

Will you find your obscure jazz music? I doubt it, but you will find old albums that you can’t download on bittorrent due to dead torrents.

TIP: When downloading, be sure to check out how many downloads an album has. Usually, there should be 3 or more albums with the same name. Check to see which one has more downloads. The ones with a lower download counts will most likely be a passworded archive.

What are archives? They’re .zip or .rar files. In order to open these, you’ll need 7-zip.
