Yesterday, I read about a mass hack named FuntKlakow. I felt something in my stomach as I read it, but I didn’t think much of it since my forums are not that big anyway (50-ish users and only a few of them post regularly).
When I checked the forum later in the day, I saw something really weird: all the topics had new responses. Since my forum is rather small, this looked a bit odd. Checking this even further, I found that the forums that allowed guest posting were being spammed.
Anyway, the forum has been disabled now until I decide what to do: delete or despam. I’m thinking about the former…

i can but read the link…it says that the bots can register and post.
besides, the forum right now is nothing but spam. if people contributed (no offense to you guys), i’ll consider keeping it alive…

I think you should disable guest posting, then check all the new registration. Can’t you tell if it’s really a person posting and not a bot?? Put a hard question in the registration form!!

i guess i could enable captcha, but then you have to think about the content…or lack thereof…that was in my forums.
if people actually take the time to make good posts instead of talking about random shit and going off-topic, i’d overlook the spam bots and enable the forum.

i looked at your forum. it’s not bad for a bunch of high schoolers, but i think you have to find some way to defeat the bot, since it can really mess up your forum, quality posts or not

oh, the bot will be defeated because phpbb is open source, so anyone can look at the source code. i’m not scared about the bot.
if people took the forum seriously instead of using it as one big chatroom, i wouldn’t mind.

YAY! I’ll be good, I promise. I’ve been so bored without being able to talk to you guys. You were my homies. Lol. I can talk to JoeJoe about using it “like a playground” I think you described it.
I like the forums. And I miss being able to talk to you guys.
