So you wanna know more about this website?
How it started. It all began in 2003 when I was in 10th grade in Visual Basic. Everyday, I wanted to access games or entertainment sites, but unfortunately, all the good ones were blocked. After a while, I went home and took the initiative of building my own basic site that archived some of my favorite games. At this point, I didn’t think that my site would grow to what it is today, so I just hosted it on a free server. For those wondering, it was 1asphost.com. The next day, I tested my site in class. Soon, people noticed that I ‘found’ a working site and demanded to know the URL, so I gave it to them. What I didn’t expect was for the every class with 5+ computers to use my site. When I first started, there were only about 20 games, but since there was a huge demand, I had to put more.
So there it is in a nutshell. I created a site -> people liked it -> I expanded it.
Why nerdnirvana or Sangent? Short answer: I’m lazy.
Long answer: I chose the name Sangent because that was the name that stood out in the list of words chosen by the random word generator. My official excuse is that it contains my name, and it’s a play on the word ‘tangent,’ which means something that’s touching something. In other words, if you went to Sangent, you would be next to me because the site has stuff that I like. I know it sounds gay, but run with it.
What about nerdnirvana? Every self-respecting site needs a top-level domain name. When it was time to chose mine, I had no idea. Yes, I could have picked sangent.com or sangent.org, but the name Sangent came after I bought nerdnirvana.org. So what I did was I asked my friends and visitors. One of my personal friends and visitor suggested nerdnirvana. I liked it, and that was that.
Sangent today. Today, I run this site. Every now and then, you might notice someone by the name of Mitchell posting to the front page. I don’t know him personally, but he is a good writer, so I gave him permission to do so. If you want to post, you can register here. Your post will not be posted immediately, but if I notice that you have potential, I will give you permission to post to the front page.
- Videos. Videos (along with news and links every now and then) are posted to the front page. I try to make about 5 - 9 posts a day.
- Games. This is what started this whole thing, but when you run a site for a long time, you want to expand your materials. You like games, but sometimes, they get old. This is why I upload 20 new games each week on Fridays.
- Images. For those with a slow internet connection, this section is for you. I know it’s not as exciting as videos or games, but you should still check out this section. Like videos, this section is updated everyday with funny or interesting material.
I probably didn’t cover all the bases, so if you have any questions, ask them in the comments, and I will promptly reply.
